SILVER CITY — This Saturday, Nov. 4, Rep. Rebecca Dow (R-Truth or Consequences) is hosting an Economic Development Forum for residents in House District 38. The forum is being held at the Albert Lyons Event Center in Truth or Consequences at 10 A.M.

Officials from the New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) and the New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department (TRD) will be on hand to discuss the resources available to New Mexicans interested in starting a new business or growing their existing operation. They will also provide information on state incentive programs, small business assistance, and state taxes.

Programs like NMEDD’s Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) have supported many small business owners through the start-up process. One new business owner recently wrote to Rep. Dow to praise the help her business has received through this program.

“Thank you for what you have done to make the SBDC available to people like myself who have a dream, a passion, but have no idea how to make it into a business,” wrote Jeane Canfield. “With the help of SBDC I am now the proud owner of Desert Roses Art Gallery and Gift Shop in Columbus, NM where we are featuring the work of local artists and craftsmen.”

Canfield continued, “I especially want to compliment Mario Lafragola who has been so patient as he walked me through that scary jungle of government/tax papers and getting set up with Square for online payments.? Next we will be working on a bookkeeping system and a website and social media marketing.? Mario has never made me feel stupid but has always supported me in believing that my dream is indeed worthwhile.”

“The contacts and resources available through NMEDD and TRD have helped countless New Mexicans like Jeane fulfill their dreams of owning their own business,” Dow said. “Small businesses are the economic backbone of rural New Mexico. Don’t miss this chance to talk with these experts and get the assistance you need for your small business.”

The Albert Lyons Event Center is located at 2953 South Broadway in Truth or Consequences, next to the Sierra County Fairgrounds. For more information on this economic development forum, please contact Ryan Hedin at (505) 986-4792.
